A simple way to explain it is to compare it to the design industry.

Designers, just like golf equipment manufacturers, are always striving to create something new and exciting that everyone will want to buy. However, not everyone can
afford to spend a great deal of money on a dress or even a golf club. This is why we see more and more designers copying designs from other designers. They may change the design just a little to make it different but this change may go unnoticed by the consumer. This dress is sold for at a lower price. The golf industry works the same way,
manufacturers are stealing the concept designs of other manufacturers, selling them as their own and making money.

People need to be careful about buying cloned merchandise because the manufacturers of these knock-offs can never create an absolutely identical product. There will always be some differences and it could make the difference in performance as well. Also when you buy a product made by a well-known company you may also receive some kind of
warranty the will guarantee the product. If you buy a cheaper knock-off you may not get this warranty and that is something that is very important.
