Golf Cart Tires

When you buy your golf cart, usually the manufacturer goes by a standard gauge for golf cart tires and wheel assembly. Usually the steel wheel measures seven inches across and is eight inches in diameter at the bead where the tubeless tire seats. The wheel has four, half inch lug bolt holes is centered on a four inch circle and it has an 18 X 8.5 X 8 tire mounted on it. This means that you end up with a tire that measures 18 inches from the ground to the top of the inflated tire. It also has a 8.5 wide thread width by 8 inch inner diameter at the bead seat.

A negative off set wheel has an off center mounting flange. This refers to the plate in the middle
of the wheel that your lug bolts come through that is moved towards the cart. The standard OEM wheels have the mounting flange in the center. When the mounting set moves towards the cart hub, it is a negative offset. This is usually about four inches from the outside of the wheel and three inches from the inside. This causes the tire to be moved out from the cart more than your usual tire would be. This is perfect for adding wide off road tires to your cart but you have to be a bit careful as you may feel the tire scrape against your fender on sharp turns.

The best you can do for your tires is to keep the right amount of air in them and check for thread wear. This will help prolong the life of your tires. If one tire gets worn worse than the other, replace both and you can keep the old ones for spares just in case you need to change them in a hurry. With good maintenance, your tires should last for a very long time.
